When It Has to Go,
Let It Go Painlessly.

We believe in saving teeth, but when removal is necessary, we do it gently. Expert care for impacted wisdom teeth and damaged roots.

Extraction is Not the End

At Shova Dental Care, our primary goal is always to preserve your natural teeth through preventative care, Fillings, or Root Canal Treatment. However, there are times when a tooth is damaged beyond repair or threatens the health of your surrounding teeth. In these cases, extraction is the healthiest choice.

Why Removal Might Be Necessary:
The most common reasons include severe decay that has destroyed the tooth’s foundation, advanced gum disease (periodontitis) where the bone support is lost, or trauma from an accident. Orthodontists may also request the removal of healthy teeth to relieve overcrowding before fitting Dental Braces.

We understand that the thought of “pulling a tooth” is scary. That is why we practice Atraumatic Extraction. Instead of “pulling,” we gently rock and elevate the tooth to preserve the surrounding jawbone. This technique minimizes pain, reduces swelling, and creates the perfect foundation for a future Dental Implant.

The Wisdom Tooth Dilemma

Third molars, or “wisdom teeth,” are the most commonly extracted teeth. They often become “impacted” (stuck beneath the gum) because modern jaws are too small to accommodate them. Impacted teeth can cause severe pain, cysts, and damage to adjacent molars. We use 3D X-ray imaging to plan the safest removal of these complex teeth.

Safety First

Signs of an Emergency

  • 1
Severe Swelling If swelling extends to your eye or neck, or if you have trouble swallowing, seek help immediately.
  • 2
Uncontrollable Pain Pain that is not relieved by painkillers suggests an active infection or abscess.
  • 3
Trauma/Fracture A tooth broken below the gumline often cannot be saved and must be removed to prevent infection.

Plan the Replacement

Removing a tooth leaves a gap that causes bone loss. Ideally, we plan the replacement before the extraction. Learn about the gold standard for replacement.

The Gentle Removal Process

Fear is often worse than the procedure. Here is exactly what happens.

1. The “Wand” Anesthesia

We start by numbing the area completely. We use computer-assisted delivery systems or high-potency gels so you don’t even feel the injection. We test the area thoroughly—we will not begin until you confirm you feel absolutely zero pain, only pressure.

2. Atraumatic Loosening

We do not “yank” teeth. We use specialized instruments called elevators to gently wiggle the tooth back and forth, widening the socket socket naturally. This separates the tooth from the ligament holding it. You will feel pressure, but no sharpness.

3. Removal & Socket Care

Once loose, the tooth is lifted out. For complex wisdom teeth, we may segment the tooth into smaller pieces for easier removal. We then clean the socket thoroughly to remove any infected tissue or debris, ensuring a clean start for healing.

4. Clot Formation

We place a sterile gauze pad over the site and ask you to bite down gently. This pressure stops the bleeding and helps a blood clot form. The clot is nature’s “bandage”—protecting the exposed bone and nerve endings as they heal.

Crucial Aftercare (Don’t Ignore This!)

The success of your extraction depends 50% on our skill and 50% on your home care. The most important rule is to protect the blood clot. If this clot dislodges, you can develop a painful condition called “Dry Socket.”

The “Do Not” List (First 24 Hours):

  • NO Smoking: The suction and chemicals can destroy the clot instantly.
  • NO Straws: Sucking on a straw creates a vacuum that pulls the clot out. Drink from a cup.
  • NO Spitting: If you need to rinse, let the water drool out of your mouth gently.
  • NO Hot Foods: Eat cold, soft foods like ice cream or yogurt to reduce swelling.

Replacing the Tooth:

Except for wisdom teeth, every extracted tooth should be replaced. Leaving a gap causes your other teeth to shift, ruins your bite, and causes bone loss. We recommend Dental Implants as the best long-term solution.

Why Shova for Oral Surgery?

We bridge the gap between a general dentist and a hospital surgeon, offering complex care in a comfortable clinic setting.

  • Dr. Rahat Rahman: With specialized training in oral surgery, he handles complex impactions that other clinics refer out.
  • Socket Preservation: We can place bone graft material into the socket immediately after extraction to preserve bone for future implants.
  • Sterility: We use hospital-grade sterilization protocols to eliminate the risk of post-op infections.
  • Transparent Pricing: Simple extractions start from 500 BDT; surgical extractions from 3,000 BDT.

Extraction FAQs

Clearing up your fears about the procedure.

You will feel pressure, but not pain. We ensure the area is completely numb before we touch the tooth. If you feel any sharpness during the procedure, raise your hand, and we will administer more anesthesia immediately. Post-op soreness is managed easily with medication.

For a simple extraction, yes, you can return to work, though we recommend taking the rest of the day off to ice your jaw. For surgical wisdom tooth removal, we recommend taking 2-3 days off to allow the swelling to subside.

Dry socket occurs when the blood clot falls out too early, exposing the bone and nerves to air and food. It causes intense, throbbing pain that radiates to the ear about 3 days after surgery. It is preventable by following our “no smoking/no straws” rule. If it happens, come back to us, and we will place a medicated dressing to stop the pain instantly.

Not everyone does. If they grow in straight and you can keep them clean, you can keep them. However, if they are impacted (stuck), causing pain, damaging the neighbor tooth, or infected, they must come out. We assess this with a panoramic X-ray.
